International Nurses’ Day is marked every day on May 12th. This day celebrates the vital role of nurses in health care and recognises the difference nursing makes. The day co-incides with the birthday of Florence Nighingale, the pioneer of modern nursing. This year’s theme is the economic power of care which creates healthy people and societies and drives healthy economies – this is with the aim of reshaping perceptions and demonstrating how strategic investment in nursing can bring considerable economic and societal benefits. Everyone across Sonderwell, and the people we support and their families and carers, shares a huge thank you to the nurses who work across the organisation. The impact their work has on helping significantly contributes to improving people’s lives and we thank them for their hard work and dedication.
Let’s take a look at what the team at Sonderwell have been up to this Spring with regards to their fundraising efforts.
Care Workers Charity
Sonderwell is a founding member of the Care Workers Charity, founded in 2009 to support current and former care workers with one-off crisis grants.
In 2020 they raised £ 3.2 million and paid almost £ 2million in Covid-19 Emergency Fund grants and over £200k in Crisis Grants to over 3,000 care workers in need.
They can provide free advice, crisis grants, and mental health support for care workers.

London Marathon for Spinal Injuries Association
Our CEO Paul Hayes completed the 2023 London Marathon in April, running to raise money for the Spinal Injuries Association. Paul completed the marathon in 4 hrs 30 mins and raised over 3K. Paul would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who sponsored and supported him!
Race for Life: Pretty Muddy
As some of you will remember last year I ran the Race for Life: Pretty Muddy event to raise money for Cancer Research UK and some of you kindly sponsored me to get me over the line. This year we are taking it a step further and will be running at as a team, Charli, Tamara and myself will be representing Team Brighton to complete a Muddy 5k Obstacle course for Cancer Research once again.
If any of you can spare any change at all or want to pop down and support us / laugh at us at the end, then it would be lovely to see as many of your smiling faces there! Feel free to share this with any of the wider team – this is a cause that I know is close to so many hearts, we are all running for our own reasons and events like this can make a real difference!
